Illegal Downloading – In a battle that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere truly worthwhile, Radiohead, Keane and Blur have come out in strong support of the ‘three strikes’ rule against illegal downloading in the UK. The rule will see users bandwidth sanctioned after three warnings if they continue to download music illegally. A message on the Feature Artists Coalition website said, “Our meeting voted overwhelmingly to support a three-strike sanction on those who persistently download illegal files, sanctions to consist of a warning letter, a stronger warning letter and a final sanction of the restriction of the infringer’s bandwidth to a level which would render file-sharing of media files impractical while leaving basic email and web access functional.” It still seems like there could be a lot of loopholes here, e.g. moving onto a new internet provider, obviously not wanting to pay for something that you cannot use, downloading at free internet spots, the fact that this is coming from three bands who aren’t as affected by illegal downloading as other musicians etc. More as it unfolds, I guess. A few weeks after the song dropped onto our radars, we have a brand new video from Drake et al. Nice. The video is spliced with footage from ‘More Than A Game’, a movie I’m dying to see more than anything. It’s a pity we don’t get to see all four artists together in the video but it’ll do just fine. Em’s delivery still doesn’t fade and Kanye’s verse sounds even more relevant since that unfortunate incident at the VMA’s just over a week ago. “I used to want this thing forever, you can have it back.” [via 2dopeboyzNah Right where you can also stream the entire soundtrack]

Madonna - CelebrationWe heard a demo track of this song floating around a long while back but the finished version is finally here. So do we actually have anything worth listening to? Unfortunately not. Madge keeps to cliche’s throughout most of the song and so does Wayne once she passes him the mic. It’s dance floor filler at it’s finest with plenty of gun/sex talk that doesn’t really go anywhere. The track is slated to be on the forthcoming Madonna greatest hits compilation, ‘Celebration,’ due out on September 29 in the US. It’s also the same date that Mariah Carey will drop ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel’ – Let the battle begin.  ‘Rebirth’ TBA.

The Beatles

 – It’s been a big couple of days for releases. Not only did our new favourite album, ‘Only Built For Cuban Linx II’  just come out in the US (a NZ release is apparently not on the books), but we had ‘The Blueprint 3’ (which Rolling Stone are predicting will hit number one) and The Beatles remasters and Rock Band combo. Phew. Yoko Ono today let it slip to Britain’s Sky News that The Beatles back catalogue will be released on iTunes. The news has since been removed from the news network but the internet is flooding with rumours that the iTunes announcement will be made officially tomorrow. Maybe not just yet though. MSNBC reports that EMI are denying the deal. “Conversations between Apple and EMI are ongoing and we look forward to the day when we can make the music available digitally. But it’s not tomorrow,” said global catalog president, Ernesto Schmitt.

How good is this going to be? From what I’ve seen of Wayne being interviewed I know we’re in for a treat. The full show will air on VH1 on September 10. Some might say it’s a little too soon but it’s let’s just let it fill the gap until that LeBron James movie comes out. Thank you YouTube.

Drake - Forever

While we were contemplating whether or not to waste our time writing about the fact that every Timbaland produced track off Blueprint 3 has managed to leak in something like three days, we came across this. We were a little skeptical when we heard about ‘Forever’ a couple of days ago but it turns out that it wasn’t a rumour. Nice. Plus, it’s actually pretty good. Drake, Kanye, Lil’ Wayne and Eminem team up dream-team style, doing what should have been done on ‘Swagga Like Us’. Full of quotables too (“Labels want my name beside the X like Malcolm/Everybody want a deal, I did it without one”). Maybe its Em’s delivery. Maybe it’s Kanye’s playfulness, or maybe it’s just Drake’s boasting. Either way, we’re sold. Just don’t talk to us about ‘Venus Vs. Mars’. Thanks.
