Is it just me or is New Zealand becoming a country consumed by like 5 bands/groups/artists? Because according to the nominees for the 44th Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards, we are. Ladyhawke is up for 6 awards as are Midnight Youth. Smashproof are eligible for 5 while The Mint Chicks and Fat Freddy’s Drop are up for 4 each. Some things we’re happy about? Tim Van Dammen (the hardest working video director in NZ) being nominated for Best Video, Cut Off Your Hands in the Best Album category, P-Money’s nomination for Single of the Year. Some things we’re not happy about? PNC missing out on the Best Urban/ Hip Hop category (He got 5 stars in Real Groove!!). Anyway, the awards ceremony will be held at Auckland’s Vector Arena on October 8th.
